Eureka Diamond: A Jeweler Retail Story
EUREKA (O’Reilly) A jeweler retail story - This Diamond was one of the first ever found in Africa and its importance has more to do with its history than its weight, 10,73ct. In 1866 a boy, Erasmus Jacobs, found a pebble on the banks of the Orange River near his home. He showed it to his neighbor, who was fascinated by its transparency e offered to buy it. The boy’s mother refused payment for it and gladly gave the pebble to the neighbor, Schak Van Niekerk. He then sold the pebble, a diamond of 231ct before being cut.
