Rough, Loose Diamonds: How are they formed?
Loose diamonds began to form millions of years ago deep inside the earth when the carbon crystallized by intense heat and pressure.

They ascended to the top through volcanic eruptions. Later, when volcanic activities slowed down and the Glacial Era began, the diamonds remained connected to a solidified magma known as “blue ground” or “kimberlitic rock.”
There are different kinds of diamond mines - such as kimberlitic tubes (above) and alluvial deposits (left).
Diamonds found in river banks (alluvial deposits) where many times formed in very distant places. Through centuries they erupted from kimberlitic tubes and were carried, first by rain waters, then by the river.
