The Niarchos Diamond

Found in South Africa’s Premier mine, the Niarchos diamond weighted 426,50 in its rough state.

First the diamond was named Iceberg because of its format and intense blue light. In North America it was called Ice Queen or Pretoria.

In 1954 the stone was bought by Harry Winston, from New York and carefully cut. It then became 3 stones: Ice Queen I, a pear shaped 128,25ct stone (left), an 40ct emerald cut stone called Ice Queen II and another emerald cut called Ice Queen III.

Most of these stones were purchased by Stavros Niarchos, a Greek tycoon who gave the stone its name.
